Project Never is a free awards competition created by graphic designers for graphic designers. Thousands of effective designs die each day – often for good reason. At the same time, successful designers and agencies generate many worthy ideas for each project or campaign, only one of which gets chosen for wider audiences. Project Never honors the most creative design concept that never reached production.

The newest contribution to socially responsible design is here. Positive Posters is a project that will have the whole world smiling. The innovative program prompts graphic designers, students and illustrators to create posters that inspire positive thought in our community. The winning poster will be bill posted with over 2500 prints on the walls of Melbourne creating a visual platform that will inspire our city to be better, brighter, happier and all things positive. While the competition starts in Melbourne, it will expand with other international cities with each round. The winner will also receive a copy of the Adobe Creative Suite CS4, and a brand new Wacom tablet. Along with picking the winner, the judges will also be awarding an Icograda excellence award recognising outstanding design. Entrants design a positive visual response to a set theme, with a panel of judges selecting one winner of thirty shortlisted finalists. Shortlisted finalists will be printed and displayed at an exhibition in November where the winner will be announced. The current theme is, “Change”. Posters are submitted online (one poster per round), and is free to enter for all applicants worldwide.

Wolda is the high-profile graphic design award scheme that rewards the best logos and trademarks designed throughout the world. The winners are selected by an international three-tier jury consisting of 10 top design professionals, 10 marketing managers from major international clients and finally 10 members of the public (provided respectively by the worldwide organizations Icograda, Aquent and Consumers International). The inspiration for this event: the Salon des Refusés, French for “exhibition of rejects”, is generally an exhibition of works rejected by the jury of the official Paris Salon, but the term is most famously used to refer to the Salon des Refusés of 1863. In that year, artists protested the Salon jury’s rejection of more than 3,000 works, far more than usual. Emperor Napoléon III decreed that the rejected artists could exhibit their works in an annex to the regular Salon. Many critics and the public ridiculed the refuses, but the critical attention also legitimized the emerging avant-garde in painting.

To celebrate Europe Day on 9 May 2010, the European Commission is organizing an international poster competition with the theme “I ♥ Europe”. The competition is open to anyone born after 1985 who is a resident of any of the 27 European Union countries. A European jury will select the 12 best designs. These will be published on the competition website in mid-December 2009. Members of the public will then be able to vote for their favorite poster and choose the winner. The public vote will close on 31 January 2010. The competition winner will be invited to Brussels to collect a 2000 Euro prize. The winning poster will be adapted for all 23 official EU languages and used to promote Europe Day. The two runners-up will each receive a 1000 Euro prize. All 12 "short-listed" projects will be exhibited in Brussels and other European cities.
