UK Schools Computer Animation Competition
-
The University of Manchester School of Computer Science launched the UK Schools Computer Animation Competition to introduce UK schoolchildren to the fun side of basic programming whilst animating. The Competition is an annual event, to show schoolchildren that computers can be used creatively, and to stimulate them to learn about programming.
Your animation can be about anything you want, with one constraint: it must be inspired by material from the taught curriculum. It might tell a story, or explain or demonstrate something - the only limit is your imagination! The duration of an entry must be no more than 1 minute. There is no minimum length.
Animations must be created using one of a number of approved software packages: Alice, Scratch, Adobe Flash, Serif: Draw Plus, KoolMoves, SWiSH Max4, Blender.
If you submit a Flash .swf file, that file must have been authored using Adobe Flash/Serif/KoolMoves/SWiSH Max (called below "the eligible Flash software"). We cannot accept swf files have been created using other authoring systems.
A special note about stop-frame animation. Animations which comprise 100% stop-frame techniques are not eligible for the Competition. However, it is permissible to use stop-frame techniques if they are used as part of an animation created using other computer animation techniques.
There is no entry fee.Eligibility
The competition is open only to students aged 7-19 enrolled at schools, colleges and other educational institutions in the United Kingdom (England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland). SSAT schools outside of the UK, since these are inspected by OFSTED, are also eligible to enter.
Students studying at University are not eligible to enter.Prize
The Competition’s summer Awards Festival is held in Manchester, when winners receive their prizes, and over 300 guests attend talks and spend time in activity rooms exploring the fun side of computing.
All entrants will receive certificates, and winners will receive prizes ranging from laptops to gift vouchers.
