National Geographic Nikon Photo Contest
Have a story that would make for a great photo essay? Here's your chance to tell it in full with a brand new, full-framed Nikon D600 of your own.
Submit one photo and an accompanying paragraph no greater than 100 words in length about someone or something that’s meaningful to you and you think would be interesting to others - be it about a loved one, or your hometown, or a personal passion. Additionally, upload three photos (not necessarily related to the story), that best demonstrate your photographic talent.
Photographs must be in digital format. Only online entries will be eligible. No print or film submissions will be accepted for entry into this Contest. All digital files must be 5 megabytes or smaller, must be in JPEG or JPG format, and must be at least 1,600 pixels wide (if a horizontal image) or 1,600 pixels tall (if a vertical image). Only submit photographs that are un-manipulated and real. Do not digitally enhance or alter your photographs (beyond the basics needed to achieve realistic color balance and sharpness). Cropping is acceptable.
Photographs may be taken with any type and brand of camera.
There is no entry fee.
Contest is open only to legal residents of the fifty United States and the District of Columbia who have reached the age of 21 at the time of entry. Professional photographers are not eligible.
Professional photographers are defined for this purpose as individuals who derive more than 10% of their annual gross income from the license and sale of photographs and/or provision of photographic services.
Judges will select five First Prize Winners who will be sent a Nikon D600 to shoot their Full Story between December 17, 2012 - January 7, 2013.
A Grand Prize Winner will be selected from among those five First Prize Winners and will be announced on January 25th, 2013. That Grand Prize Winner will then accompany National Geographic’s Digital Nomad, Andrew Evans, on a National Geographic Expedition to the Galápagos Islands February 8-17, 2013 aboard the National Geographic Endeavour to photograph the rich ecosystems and contribute to the Digital Nomad experience along side Andrew.
