    The Environmental Photographer of the Year is an international showcase for the very best in environmental photography. The competition encourages entries that are contemporary, creative, resonant, challenging, original and beautiful, but most of all, pictures that will inspire people around the world to start taking care of our environment.

    The competition's overall theme is social and natural issues of the environment. However, the below categories will guide you on some of the issues the judges are particularly looking for:

    • The Built Environment
    • The Changing Climate
    • People, Nature and Economy

    Each entrant may enter up to 10 still photographs. Entries must be submitted as digital files only. For initial entry, all still photography images must be submitted as JPEGs, saved at a high quality level, with a maximum file size of 0.5MB. If shortlisted, still photography entrants must be able to supply images as RAW files or original JPEGs.

    Some digital adjustment or editing is allowed, but entrants should understand that the objective is to remain faithful to the original experience, and to never deceive the viewer or misrepresent reality.

    Entrants must be the sole author and owner of the copyright for all the entries they submit, or they must have obtained permission from the copyright holder to submit the entries on their behalf. The photographers retains the copyright to all their entries.

    There is no entry fee.

    Eligibility


    Open to all professional and amateur, national and international photographers of all ages. All photographs entered must have been completed since 1 January 2016.

    Prize


    • Environmental Photographer of the Year: 3000 GBP (approx. 3,875 USD)
    • CIWEM Changing Climate Prize: 1000 GBP (approx. 1,290 USD), plus showcase of portfolio in one issue of The Environment Magazine
    • Built Environment Prize: 500 GBP
    • Mobile Phone Prize : 500 GBP
    • Young Environmental Photographer of the Year (Under 16): Olympus Camera Equipment

    Moreover, the works will be displayed at the Royal Geographical Society in London in June 2018, followed by a tour to forest venues nationally, supported by Forestry Commission England.
