UPDATE: deadline extended to July 20, 2014.

Now in its 18th year, the National Open Art Competition is calling for entries for the 2014 competition. This annual open competition aims to nurture creative talent from both emerging and professional artists. Last year’s prize saw a record number of entries; over 2,100 works were submitted from across the UK for consideration by the panel of judges.

    The following mediums are accepted:

    Original prints
    Wall hung installations
    Computer generated art, e.g. iPad

For young artists between 15 and 20 years there is also a special prize category (but a young artist could also win any of the prizes on offer).

Art works must be new or recent (preferably in the last 3 years). Max size of Artwork: Width (183cm) x Height (183cm) x Depth (30cm) including the frame. A total of four entries may be submitted for the competition.

The image submitted must be true to the artwork (try to avoid unnecessary background) and the Artist must be its author. The art work shown on the image(s) must be available, if shortlisted, for judging at Chichester on 26 August 2014 and for the exhibition(s). Approximately 100 works will be selected for exhibitions in London and Chichester in Autumn 2014.

The entry fee is £20 to register and submit one work. Additional works may be submitted at £20 each.

This competition is open to all artists and photographers living, or professionally based, in the United Kingdom. No entries will be accepted from any artist under the age of 15 at 1st September 2014.

    Prizes include:

Towry Award: £10,000 (approx. 16,800 USD)
    Photographic Prizes: £10,000
    Young Artist Prizes: £3,000

Moreover, up to nine Regional Prizes will also be awarded.
