Embracing Our Differences 2014
- Category: Multiple Disciplines
Deadline: January 6, 2014 (30 days left)
Contest's Website: [link]
Embracing Our Differences believes that everyone has the right to feel safe, to be empowered and to make a difference in our world. Our project promotes diversity education throughout the community and works to teach everyone the importance of being an "up-stander", not a "by-stander". Together, we can create a vibrant community that is safe and inclusive for all where differences are embraced and individuality is celebrated.
The centerpiece of Embracing Our Differences is an outdoor juried international art exhibit featuring 39 billboard size images (12.5 feet by 16 feet) created by local, national and international artists, writers and students. The display reflects the artists' interpretations of the theme "Enriching lives through diversity".
The mission of Embracing Our Differences is to use the arts as a catalyst for creating awareness and promoting, throughout our community, the value of diversity, the benefits of inclusion and the significance of the active rejection of hatred and prejudice.
Your original art may be any size and in any medium; however, you have to submit a high-resolution digital file on a CD. Your digital file must measure exactly 12.8" (325.12 mm) wide by 8.8" (223.52 mm) high, and it has to be saved at 300 dpi. Artists are encouraged to use bold saturated colors and strong lines. Final selections will be made by a 3-judge panel of professional artists, curators and art professionals.
There is no entry fee and there is no limit on the number of entries.
Artists, photographers, professionals, amateurs, teachers and students are eligible. National and international submissions are encouraged.
• Best In Show (Adult): A single $1,000.00 cash award will be presented to one submission deemed "Best In Show" (adult) by our Steering Committee. College students will be judged in this category.
• Best In Show (Student): A $1,000.00 cash award will be presented to one submission deemed "Best In Show" (student) by our Steering Committee. Students high school-age and below will be judged in this category. This prize money will be awarded directly to the student's school.
• People's Choice: A $1,000.00 cash award will be presented at the end of the exhibit to the submission that receives the most votes by visitors to the exhibit who complete our survey form.
The outdoor art exhibit will contain 39 billboard-sized original works of art. Each selection will be accompanied by an inspirational quote. The exhibit will be displayed during April & May, 2014 in Sarasota, Bradenton, and North Port, Florida.
