    Organised by the Catalan Association of Science Communication, Il·lustraciència, now in its fifth edition, aims to disseminate the importance of science illustration and pushes it in all its forms, supporting science illustrators and rewarding them through the convening of the International Award on Scientific Illustration.

    There are two categories:

    • Traditional
    • Digital

    Each participant is able to submit only a single work. The work must have been created between January 2016 and March 1st, 2017. The subject of the illustrations must be related to science or nature and the technique is free.

    The measure of the illustration must be A3 (420 x 297mm) 72 DPI in RGB and it should not include watermarks or texts (except signatures, numbers or figure letters and symbols). The participation form will include a text in Spanish, Catalan or English of (100-150 words) that explains, in addition to the species or element, some curiosity or characteristic shown in the illustration.

    There is no entry fee.

    Eligibility


    All work teams or individuals aged over 18 years old may participate in this Award regardless of the country of residence.

    Prize


    From among all received proposals, the jury will select for their scientific accuracy, clarity, originality and information capacity the 40 works that will take part in the exhibition of the fifth edition of Il·lustraciència.

    The jury will also select the winning proposal, the winners of the training awards and up to five special awards to the most outstanding works. The Audience Award will be made through popular vote on the official website of the award.

    The author of the winning illustration will receive 600 EUR (approx. 635 USD), while the author of the work selected by the audience will receive 200 EUR (approx. 211 USD).
