    3x3 magazine is entering its eleventh year judging the world's best contemporary illustration. Their mission is to spotlight the best contemporary international artists they can find and encourage a new focus on the use of illustration by the global editorial, advertising and design communities.

    They hold juried competitions once a year to highlight the best and brightest talents of each year.
This year the competitions are:

    • ProShow - categories include Advertising, Animation, Annual Reports, Books, Calendars, Corporate Communication, Covers, Cartoons & Comics, Editorial-separate categories for conceptual, food and beverage, portraits, sports, travel and lifestyle- Fashion, Gallery, Greeting Cards, Graphic Novels, Packaging, Posters, Stamps, Sci-Fi, Self-Promotion, Sequential, Textiles & Patterns, Three-Dimensional and Unpublished.

    • Picture Book Show - categories include Children’s Book, published and a separate category for unpublished; Young Adult, Book Covers, Children’s Illustration, published and a separate category for unpublished; Educational, Editorial, Children’s Programming and a Miscellaneous category that includes packaging and products for young children.

    • Student Show - while most shows have an open category for student shows, the Student Show's categories this year include illustration, animation, sci-fi, and books.

    Moreover, this year there's a new honorable mention category, while winners will need a majority of votes to get into the show, honorable mentions will need receive one-half the judge’s votes.

    The goal is to bring together artists from all countries to share their creative output in an impartial judging scenario. All judging is done digitally by a set of unbiased judges; if a particular judge has either commissioned the work or has been the illustrator they are not allowed to vote on their entry.

    Eligibility


    Open to all illustrators, art directors, graphic designers, educators, students, recent graduates, editors, publishers in all countries for commissioned and non-commissioned work produced and/or published during the calendar year 2013.

    Prize


    Prizes include best of show, gold, silver and bronze medals as well as distinguished merit awards.

    In addition to merit awards, this year there's a new honorable mention category. The honorable mention winners will only be displayed online. It will still take a majority of judges' votes for a piece to get into our show, but by adding the honorable mention category those receiving half the judges' votes will now be recognized.

    This year an app of the annual will be created and it will be offered free to a select list of art directors worldwide. Art directors will also receive a discount when ordering our print edition.
