GIRAF, or the Giant Incandescent Resonating Animation Festival, is an annual animation festival that runs each November at the Plaza Theatre in Calgary. GIRAF celebrates the spirit of independent, underground, and experimental animation, showcasing Canadian animators and presenting diverse animations from around the globe.

GIRAF is committed to gaining greater awareness for animation as an art form, and is looking for Animation submissions, in all styles, genres, lengths, and mediums, representing the best of the medium from Claymation to CG. The focus of the festival is on presenting independent animations that push boundaries through new techniques, unique visions, and stimulating subject matter.

Animations must be independently produced (not by major studios), with the director retaining complete editorial control.
